With a specific purpose Shri Swaminarayan Gurukul, Gandhidham was established by Shri Swaminarayan temple, Bhuj, in the year 1999. through this institute students are imparted career oriented education, art of living moral life, human religion, modesty, civility, character building, nationalism and Bhagwat Bhakti (worship to God) etc.                       
Various activities run by the institute:

Hostel and Prayer temple: there is a huge hostel with well-furnished 18 rooms having the capacity of accommodation for 300 students.  In the central part of it is situated a vast temple for prayer.  Every morning and evening students perform Pooja, prayer, Dhoon and Kirtan. The lectures of the saints are also organized.

1. Bhojanalaya and Library: On the ground floor of the Prayer temple there is a huge Bhojanalaya and a library hall is developed above the prayer temple wherein the students can read educational and religious books.

2. Balmandir and Primary School: In order to inculcate noble values in a child, the institute is also running a Balmandir and a primary school.

3. Secondary School: From June 2003, the institute has started a secondary school. It is the aim of the institute that over and above education the students of the high school would not leg behind in any of the co-curricular activities like  elocution competition, sports and games, dance, drama etc.

4. Computer Classes: How can any student remain unaware an illiterate about computer in this present Age of Computer? Therefore in the institute students are being imparted computer education from primary level.

5. Sports-Games and Cultural Activities: A Gurukul Stadium has been built on the vast playground of the institute to impart training of cricket to the students wherein the students have been playing matches and tournaments with the teams of various schools. The institute also organizes ‘Sports’ Festival’ wherein students participate in various games like long race, long jump, high jump, bamboo race, Kabbadi, Kho-Kho etc. there is a facility of a stage near the entrance gate of the institute wherein the students of the institute perform various cultural programmes every year and win the hearts of the audience.

6. Service to Humanity : Blood donation camps are organized frequently wherein a number of people render their services by donating their blood. Furthermore various types of health related camps are organized by the institute. In spite of sustaining tremendous loss during the earthquake, considering the prevalent situation the saints and the devotees of the institute have provided food packets and other essential commodities to the affected people in the villages. Moreover, a distribution centre was also started in the Gurukul wherein the helpless people were provided grains, blankets, food-packets, utensils etc. at large scale.




It is the goal of the institute to provide education to the children from Balmandir to the college in one complex. Purani Swami Muktavallabhdasji (Managing trustee), Purani Swami Harimukunddasji (Mantri), Purani Swami Purushottamswaroopdasji (Sahsanchalak) and Vedantcharya Swami Satprakashdasji are providing valuable guidance to the institute.
