Accepting the orders of the Lord Swaminarayan  for welfare of the whole manking, Shastriji Maharaj Shree Narayancharandasji Swami established ‘Shree Swaminarayan Gurukul’ in 1970 in Savarkundla city of Bhavnagar district of Gujarat. From a small plant, this institute has now developed into a shady tree. Darshan of Gurukul Institute, Grand entrance and Agriculture-Park, Huge Prayer Hall with idol image of Balswaroop Shree Ghanshyam Maharaj, Spacious Bhojanalaya and town hall, Kitchen compartment, store room, Saint Ashram, Circuit House, Office, Hostel and building of Primary, Secondary, Higher Secondary and Technical school.

Various activities of social service of the institute:

1. Primary, Secondary, and Technical school (wherein about 4000 students are studying in both the mediums)
2. Hostel, Gau-seva, N.S.S.
3. Eye-camp (every month) and at regular interval arrangement of Teeth-camp, All diseases-diagnosis camp, Blood donation camp, Polio-camp and Tuberculosis Camp (free of cost)
4. Butter-milk centre, Anna-Kshetra and to be helpful to the society, government mechanism and affected people during the time of natural calamities.
5. Scholarship and other kinds of help to the brilliant and needy students
6. Hospital (where medical examination, medicines and laboratory services are offered for just a token amount of Rs.5/-)

Vision of the Institute:

1. To eradicate illiteracy and stubbornness based on blind faith from the society and to lead it towards progress in terms of education, health and overall improvement.
2. To inculcate in children the qualities of patriotism, religiosity, generosity, freedom from any kind of addiction and consciousness towards the duties.

Achievements of the Institute:

1. Four former students of the Institute are taking training as I.A.S. probationers to serve the nation
2. Many students have brought glory and name to the Institute in the fields of Medical Science, Engineering, Agriculture, Commerce, Arts and Electronics.
3. A number of co-curricular activities, activities of social work and cultural activities are undertaken by the institute along with education.
4. In literacy campaign, the institute has played a leading role and had made Savarkundla city 100% literate.
5. Every year result of S.S.C. of the school run by the institute is around 90% (Gujarati Medium) and 100% (English Medium).
6. Students of the institute are always in leading position in various competitions and sports held at Taluka, District and State level.

In the development of the institute contribution of the donors like Sheth Shree Dhirubhai Ghelani (Mumbai), Shree Manubhai Koradiya (Dallas), late Shree Amritben Laljibhai Vekariya (London), Kalyanbhai Ravjibhia Vekariya (London), late Sheth Shree Jivanlal Odhavjibhai Bakhda (Mumbai), Dr.J.M.Lakhani (Mumbai), Shree Mahendrabhai Parekh (Ghatkopar-Mumbai), Chandrakantbhai Mehta (Savarkundlawala) has been noteworthy.

The administration of the institute is being run by Shree Ghanshyam Swami, Shree Bhagwatprasadswami, Shree Harihar Swami, Shree Hariprasadswari, Shree Ghanshyambhai Kankotiya and Shree Girishbhai Vyas.

Another branch of this institute is situated on Jesar road wherein one thousand students are availing education from Balmandir till standard 10 and whose result comes 90% to 95% every year.
