The chief post of the building of Satsang and, chieftain among 500 Paramhansas of the Lord Shree Swaminarayan was beyond doubt Sadguru Shree Muktanand Swami. Swami was born to his mother Radhadevi in the house of Anandram on Posh Vad 7 Samvat 1814. In his childhood he was known as Mukunddas. His residence in Amreli was his Karm-Bhumi. In his childhood, he determined to live like Dhruv and Prahlad. He learnt Sanksrit, Music and also noble qualities of behaviour from his brilliant father.
Renunciation of the house and world by Mukunddas after study of the Vedanta and his search of Guru and worship of the Truth are ideals for the devotees to be emulated. He took Diksha from Shree Ramanand Swami- the founder of Uddhav Sampradaya- on Vasant Panchmi, Vikram Samvat 1842. He became Muktanand Swami and later on Mahant of Loj Ashram. Following the instructions of his Guru, he again studied Vedanta and achieved the status and knowledge as that of Brihaspati. Multi-linguist and expert in many disciplines, Swami had the sweetness of a cuckoo in his voice. It was not something new for him to mesmerize the audience through different Ragas and Raginis. His sweet voice had made him endear to and had secured a unique place in the hearts of thousands of people. In a very short time, he emerged as a leading disciple of Shree Ramanand Swami.
In Samvat 1856 Lord Shree Swaminarayan graced the Asharam of Loj in the form of Nilkanth-varni. Influenced by devotion and knowledge of Muktanand Swami, Shree Hari stayed in the Ashram. After some time he met Ramanand Swami, took Diksha from him and sat on the seat in Jetpur.
Thereafter the reigns of the Sampradaya came in the hands of Sahajanand Swami saint Shree Muktanand Swami, who had attained the status of a Guru, remained and served throughout his life as a disciple. How unique and great was his sacrifice! ******* (Text in Gujarati) with this feeling in his heart he has worshipped like Gopi. Swami has offered a delicious dish through his vast volume of literature in various languages not only to the Satsang but also to the world literature.
The unique triumvirate achievement like creation of commentary on Brahma Sutra Bhashya and erudition of a stature like defeating the stalwarts of knowledge of Vadodara, creation of Rasa-dominated ‘Raas-Lila’ and classical dance capable of defeating the Gavaiya (singers) of Gwalior in just one life span was only by Muktanand Swami.
He has written as many as 28 voluminous books. His ‘Kashaya-Vastra’ has given gloriousness to Bharat in the world. His erudition and humility and virtuous knowledge had earned him ‘Guru-pada’ of Shreeji Maharaj. His compassion and affection gave him the status which was not achieved by any of five hundred Paramhansas. Gidhubhai Badheka is known as ‘Muchhali Maa’ (Mother with a moustache) in Gujarati literature; similarly Lord Shree Swaminarayan has given him the nickname of ‘Satsang ni Maa’ (Mother of Satsang). His name is taken with great honour after Sahjanand Swami. Just after one month of Shree Hari’s return to Swadhaam, he left his body at Gadhpur on Ashada Vad-11 Samvat 1886 and went to divine abode. |
