Shree Shukanand Swami was one of the endeared saints of Shreeji Maharaj, who lived a documentary life of an expert writer and as a right hand of Shreeji Maharaj in the history of Shree Swaminarayan Sampradaya.

He was born in a pious Aaudichya Brahmin family of village Dabhan in Vikram Samvat 1855. In his childhood he was known as Jaganath. Due to his brilliance he had progressed a lot in his studies. Right from his childhood he was religious by nature. Following the instructions of Shree Hari he stayed in Dabhan for further studies in Sanskrit; there he had satsang with the saints. Thereafter he went to Gadhpur to render his services to Shree Hari. On the occasion of Diksha Maharaj sent him to Sadguru Shree Muktanand Swami. Swami gave him Diksha and he was named as ‘Shukanand’. At that time Maharaj stated that even Muktanand Swami knows that he is Shukdevji himself.

Shree Hari was very much pleased with knowledge, nobility and art of writing of Shuk Muni. Maharaj had allotted him a room adjoining Akshar-room. Swami has constantly written letters and books about Shree Hari. Once being pleased with Muni in a Sabha, Maharaj held and raised the hand of Muni and pronounced in the Sabha that one may perform austere Tapa-Sadhana like Chandrayana but one cannot achieve the status of Shuk Muni. In ‘Vachanamrit’ it is noted that this Shuk Muni was a great saint. And since his stay with Maharaj his powers have always been increasing like a rising sun and therefore he is like Muktanand Swami. In short Sadhana of Swamiji had been successful and he had obtained immense pleasure of Lord Swaminarayan.

Along with his services, Swamiji has written 7 books in Sanskrit and 9 books in Gujarati. Once when Swamiji was writing letters beside Maharaj, the lamp was bloated. And Maharaj spread light from his toes and allowed the letter to be completed.

Sometimes in his intense pleasure Maharaj used to tell that he likes three things very much: Saint of Dabhan, Mango tree of Dabhan and Bullock of Dabhan.
When Shreeji Maharaj returned to Akshardhaam, Swamiji was very much dejected and yet he roamed from one village to another and gave solace to so many saints and people. For about 12 years he continuously worked for Satsang and Shree Swaminarayan Sampradaya and did not care for his body which resulted into illness. At that time Shreeji Maharaj had cured him of his fever. At last on Magsar Vad 5 in Samvat 1925 he left his worldly body in Vadtal and passed away to Akshardhaam.
